Prosecutor’s Office filed an Indictment against Three Persons over War Crimes

A prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes filed an indictment against Ranko Babić, born in 1952, Bratislav Bilbija, born in 1963 and Đuro Adamović, born in 1951, all born in Prijedor.

The accused are charged with having committed a crime against civilians in Ljeskare, in the summer of 1992.  

The accused are charged that during the war and armed conflict in BiH, within the widespread and systematic attack on Bosniak civilians in the area of Prijedor,

they, as commanders and members of the VRS, acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Convention on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

The indictment alleges that in August 1992 the accused arrived at the village of Ljeskare – hamlet of Bukvik, where Bosniak civilians were located, and separated a number of men, including juveniles.

After that, they took part in the torture, ill-treatment and murder of Bosniak civilians, two of whom were killed in the above-mentioned place and three civilians were taken in an unknown direction since when every trace of them has been lost.

The accused Babić, as the officer with the highest rank, is charged with having taken part in the commission of the crime and with having failed to take any measures to prevent the crime and punish the perpetrators.

The accused are charged with the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity in violation of Article 172 of the Criminal Code of BiH.

The indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
