A prosecutor of the Special Department for Organised Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption filed an indictment against Nedeljko Markovic, born in 1988 in Loznica, residing in Zvornik.

The accused is charged that in late September 2019, acting in agreement and coordination with persons known to him from the territory of the Republic of Serbia, he took over 16 illegal migrants, Iraqi citizens, among whom 7 minors, after they had been illegally smuggled into Bosnia and Herzegovina in the area of Zvornik.

Subsequently, the accused, although aware that the illegal migrants did not enter BiH legally and did not have any documents for legal residence and travel within BiH, contrary to Article 6 of the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational and Organised Crime, organised the transportation of the illegal migrants from the area of Zvornik to Tuzla by his vehicle, but was discovered by police officers of the BiH Border Police in the area of Pilica in late night hours after which he tried to run away from the scene, but was arrested and overpowered by the reaction of the police officers.

The accused is charged with having transported smuggled persons, among whom were minors, thus enabling them to stay in BiH, whereby he committed the criminal offence of Smuggling of Persons under Article 189 of the Criminal Code of BiH.

The indictment was forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
