Decrease in Tourists’ Arrivals to Bosnia and Herzegovina decreased by 212 Percent!

In May this year, there were a total of  4,802 tourist arrivals in Bosnia and Hercegovina which represent the decrease by 212.0% as compared to April 2020 and decrease by 96.9% as compared to May 2019.

Tourists realised 13,713 overnight stays which represent the decrease by 74.7% as compared to April 2020 and decrease by 95.2% as compared to May 2019. Domestic tourists share of total number of overnight stays was 87.8% and foreign tourists share was 12.2%.

The number of domestic overnight stays decreased by 117.3% as compared to April 2020 and decreased by 84.8% as compared to May 2019. Foreign tourist nights decreased by 27.7% as compared to April 2020 and decreased by 99.2% as compared to May 2019.

Concerning the structure of foreign overnight stays in May 2020, the most of them (73.8%) were realised by tourists from: Saudi Arabia (22.0%), Croatia and Serbia (13.9%), Russian Federation (10.8%), Turkey (5.0%) and USA and Australia (4.1%). Tourists from other countries realised 26.2% of tourist nights.

Regarding the average stay of foreign tourists in our country on the first place comes: Iran with average stay by 31.0 nights, Australia 33.7 nights, Turkey 21.0 nights and Saudi Arabia 20.4 nights.

Available rooms, apartments and camping sites for tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina in May 2020 amounted to 10,677 which is 48.2% decrease compared to May 2019. Number of available beds was 21,997 beds, which is decrease by 50.3%, compared to the same month of 2019.

In May 2020, in the activity – hotels and similar accommodation, number of rooms and apartments available to tourists amounted to 9,781, which is an decrease of 45,9% compared to May 2019, and number of available beds amounted to 19,204 which is an decrease of 48.4%, compared to the same month of the previous year.

Net occupancy rate of permanent beds in April 2020 was 2.1%.

According to the type of accommodation facility the highest number of nights was recorded in hotels and similar accommodation with share of 80.6%.
