Prosecutor’s Office files Indictment against Two Persons for Corruption

The Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH has filed an indictment against Dejan Ivastanin, born in 1980 in Bosanska Gradiška, citizen of BiH, police officer employed with the Border Police of BiH and Ermin Bicakcic, born in 1987 in Sarajevo, citizen of the Republic of Croatia.

It is alleged against the accused that on 22 November 2020, at Small Border Crossing Gradiška, working as an authorised official of the Border Police of BiH, assigned to the position of police officer for control of passenger vehicles and buses, performing border control activities at the entrance to BiH, in order to acquire illegal gain, demanded and received a gift not to perform the action he was obliged to perform.

The indictment alleges that on the said date the accused Ivaštanin, during control of the travel documents of the accused Bičakčić and the person who was in the vehicle with him, insisting that the said persons entering BiH did not have the necessary Covid approvals and certificates, although he knew it was not correct, he demanded and received a gift in order to allow them to cross the state border without further delay, and the accused Bičakčić gave a monetary gift to the official of the BiH institutions in order not to carry out the procedure prescribed by law.

The accused are charged with having committed criminal offences, as follows: Dejan Ivaštanin the criminal offence of Accepting Gifts and Other Forms of Benefit, and the accused Ermin Bičakčić the criminal offence of Giving Gifts and Other Forms of Benefit.

The indictment has been forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
