The protests in Sarajevo did not go by unnoticed throughout the world.
A large part of the country recognized the importance of the struggle of BiH citizens, the struggle for babies.
After support from the Netherlands, Slovenia, Turkey and other countries, the protests have received support from Washington.
In the capital city of the United States of America, a small community of BiH citizens and their American friends gathered together during the weekend.
They gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial, the place where human rights activist Martin Luther King delivered his famous “I have a dream’’ speech and gave their support to the Sarajevo JMBG protests.
They carried placards that said “DC uz BiH za JMBG” (DC with BIH for JMBG) and “Javi se Sarajevo, utorak 12h” (Show up Sarajevo, Tuesday 12h).
Several dozens of people from Belgrade gathered during the weekend on Kalemegdan by the monument “Pobjednik” and held up signs saying “Svi smo mi Belmina” (We are all Belmina” as a sign of support to the citizens of Sarajevo that are protesting in front of the building of the BiH Parliament in Sarajevo.
They held up placards of support that said Beograd s ljubavlju (Belgrade With Love), A gdje je JMB (Where is the JMB), etc.
The protests in Sarajevo began after it was announced on 5 June that three-month-old Belmina Ibrišević could not go abroad to seek emergency medical treatment because her parents were not able to apply for her passport.
The reason for this is because babies born in BiH after 12 February are denied the right to obtain a unique master citizen number (JMB) because of the judgment in the BiH Constitutional Court declared the former Law on the BiH Unique Master Citizen Number invalid.
On Thursday, citizens of BiH gathered in front of the BIH Parliament and blocked representatives and others in the building from exiting and demanded an immediate adoption of a law.
In the meantime, students held protests from Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka, and a new gathering in front of the state institution is scheduled for this week.
