On Wednesday, citizen protests will be organized in Jablanica as an expression of support for Enisa Klepo, who was beaten by the owner of the Jablanica hotel, but also for all women who are victims of violence.
Protests on Wednesday, August 9th at 6 p.m. in Doljanka Street are organized by several associations from Mostar, Konjic, Jablanica and Sarajevo. Those gathered will walk from Komuna Vejle Street, across Zlatnih Ljiljana Street, Nikola BojanovicStreet to the Youth Promenade.
“The violence perpetrated against a woman, the endangerment of workers’ rights, horrified and united us as a society with the aim of stopping violence against women and protecting workers’ rights, especially in Jablanica, where unfortunately this is not the first time that workers’ rights have been violated,” the Dignitet Association stated in the call for protests.
A worker at the Jablanica Hotel was beaten five days ago after she asked for her last salary as she was planning to quit her job. However, instead of a salary, she received a beating preceded by a verbal conflict with the owner Amir Dzafic and his wife. She suffered severe head injuries in the incident.
In addition to numerous associations, the attack on her was also condemned by the mayor of Jablanica, Damir Sabanovic.
They point out that with peaceful protests in Jablanica they want to send a message that they will not stop until the violence against the unprotected worker is punished.
“We invite all citizens, representatives of the governmental and non-governmental sector, representatives of employers to join us in order to express our support for women victims of violence. Together, let’s send a message that violence against women has no place in our society, and that violent employers should be punished in accordance with the law”, it was stated from the Dignitet Association.
The associations organizing the protests stated that their goals are clear:
“We want to stop violence against women, provide support to those who have suffered violence and highlight the necessity of fighting violence as a serious problem in our society and initiate sanctions for employers who do not respect workers’ rights! Through peaceful protests, we want to empower the voices of victims and send a strong message that violence against women cannot go unpunished,” they emphasized, Klix.ba reports.
