The pole of the first public lighting in Sarajevo, which was officially put into operation on May 1, 1985, was again placed at the Baščaršija Square. According to official fata, not only Sarajevo had public lighting 120 years ago, but the very metal pole was produced at the Steelworks in Vareš.
Precisely this data will be stated on metal plates which will be placed on the pole, in order to preserve the past from oblivion and highlight the rich history and tradition of Sarajevo. Inscriptions on the plates will be in Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, English, German and Turkish language.
Namely, reconstruction of the Baščaršija Square has been ongoing since September. Tiles were set, new stairs around the Sebilj, as well as new public lighting. Opening of the reconstructed square is expected to be held on December 24, and it is certain that it will remain to be one of the main tourist attractions even in this new light.
