Numerous wars in the world, threats, tensions. All this leads countries to think about reintroducing military service. In Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the institutions do not talk about it, but some studies feel the pulse of the public. How realistic is the introduction of military service in BiH?

Zdravko is 26 years old, comes from Trebinje, is employed. He says he would do military service if it was mandatory.

“Habits are formed and all of that. I wasn’t in military, but I would like it if it was military service, I would go for sure,” he told.

Citizens are divided, some are in favor of it, some are against. But they agree that serving in the military gives you some good habits.

Research conducted by the Center for Security Studies showed that out of 361 respondents, 90% of them were in favor of reintroducing military service in BiH. Those who are in favor –mention these items as reasons: the acquisition of discipline, assistance in emergency situations, strengthening of national identity.

“About 5,000 people were foreseen by the law on defense to be established as a reserve unit, for some reason this was never implemented, nor did anyone initiate the establishment of that defense unit. So that perhaps in this way, if society, public opinion has an interest, institutions, of course, adequate research and certain activities, financial and preparedness, social, and then come out with a serious recommendation based on those indicators”, stated Denis Hadzovic. from the Center for Security Studies, N1 writes.
