Rade Aleksic: As long as there are People who recognize Srdjan, he is alive

Every year on January 27th, there is a similar scene on the grave of Srdjan Aleksic in Trebinje. The media, the delegation of the City of Trebinje, Srdjan’s friends and father Rade remember Srdjan and his work. It was the same yesterday, on the 30th anniversary of his death.

Srdjan’s father Rade speaks slowly and lays flowers on his son’s grave. There are no tears.

As long as he observes the people who recognize Srdjan, he has not died, says Rade.

“It would be good if no work like Srdjan’s ever died, but if it was a signpost for goodness, for well-being, for the destruction of all evil in this world. It’s a bit difficult, but if the young people were brought up like that, it would happen,” says Rade Aleksic and recalls how on the day of Srdjan’s death, he said that Trebinje should have been dark because a man was killed in the middle of the market.

“Srdjo didn’t allow it and the sun warmed Trebinje at that moment,” told Rade.

Srdjan Aleksic died on yesterday’s day in 1993 as a result of the blows he received six days earlier at the Trebinje market. He was beaten by several reservists of the Republika Srpska Army (VRS) while he was defending his friend Alen Glavovic.

Rade Aleksic thanked the journalists who have been following and reporting on Srdjan and his work for years, as well as the delegation of the City of Trebinje.

“I am glad that journalists like you are spreading what is good, spreading the human being and helping young man to progress and to understand that only an independent person has the opportunity to create a free society and to be free in it. Thank you for the work you do and thank you to the delegation of the City, which every year pays respect to Srdjan’s act“, said Rade Aleksic and noted that he is glad that the journalism award named after his son has become a regional award this year.

The President of the Assembly of the City of Trebinje came with his associates to pay tribute to a fellow citizen who, as he said, gave his life protecting the weaker.

“The world is constantly between the desire to bring instability and conflict and the desire to reign in lasting peace. Remembering Srdjan Aleksic, but also many other heroes who did a similar act, helps to understand, among other things, the horrors of war and the madness that constantly follows such a situation, and on the other hand, it helps people to become even closer in times of peace,“ said Banjak and stated that a sports complex in Trebinje and an international swimming meet are named after Srdjan Aleksic.

“That’s how we keep a lasting memory of him,” Banjak concluded.

There are flowers on Srdjan’s grave, and as he arranges them, Father Rade proudly shows a pot from unknown people on which it is written – “to a fellow citizen – a hero”, Detektor reports.
