General Ratko Mladic’s health condition has deteriorated, his son Darko Mladic told TASS today.
“Unfortunately, I do not have good news. His condition is quite bad and is getting worse by the minute. He is so physically weak that he cannot walk even 20 meters without rest,” said Darko Mladic.
He added that “there is a noticeable deterioration in cognitive functions, which is expected, because doctors did not treat the consequences of strokes.”
“He has a high level of sugar, which doctors do not control, and that accelerates all these processes. He is getting weaker,” said Darko Mladic.
The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts today pronounced the final verdict against Ratko Mladic. He was sentenced to life in prison. This war criminal, who was the commander-in-chief of the Army of the Republika Srpska, was found guilty today in the final verdict, after which there is no appeal, on 10 of the 11 counts in the indictment.

He is guilty of genocide in Srebrenica. The municipalities Ratko Mladic is charged with are Banja Luka, Bijeljina, Foca, Ilidza, Kalinovik, Kljuc, Kotor Varos, Novi Grad, Pale, Prijedor, Rogatica, Sanski Most, Sokolac, Trnovo and Vlasenica, as well as persecution from Srebrenica. The aim of the persecution is the permanent removal of Muslims and Croats between May 12, 1992 and November 30, 1995, prosecutors say, alleging that towns and villages were attacked with the intention of taking power.
He is guilty under counts 4, 5 and 6 for extermination and murder
He is guilty of the crimes of extermination and murder, which were part of the goal of all three joint criminal enterprises for which Ratko Mladic is accused – “removing the non-Serb population from the area claimed by Serbs, spreading terror among the civilian population of Sarajevo and conducting sniping campaigns; shelling, the elimination of Bosnian Muslims from Srebrenica, as well as the forcible removal of women, children and some elderly men. ”
He is guilty of counts 7 and 8, which include deportation and inhumane acts
This count of the indictment includes arrest without a warrant, torture, killing, rape, destruction of houses, cultural monuments and religious buildings. They forced Muslims and Croats to flee their homes and places. Others were physically expelled, prosecutors said. By the end of 1992, most of the non-Serb population had been forcibly displaced, and deportations and inhumane acts continued until the end of the 1995 war.
He is also guilty of counts 9 and 10 for terrorizing and illegally attacking Sarajevo From April 1992 until the end of the war, Sarajevo was shelled and sniped. He is also guilty under Count 11 for taking UN soldiers hostage
After NATO forces launched airstrikes on VRS military targets on 25 and 26 May 1995, Serb forces captured more than two hundred peacekeepers and UN military observers at various locations, some of them harassed.
In June 1995, peacekeepers and military observers were exchanged on several occasions. Mladic was acquitted only under Count 1, as well as in the first-instance verdict which refers to the indictment for genocide in Prijedor, Sanski Most, Kotor Varos, Kljus, Vlasenica and Foca, Klix.ba writes.
