Association of victims and witnesses of genocide and “Mothers of Enclaves of Srebrenica and Zepa Association” are concerned about statements of the political leadership of Republika Srpska on the occasion of the death of war criminal and general of Army of Republika Srpska Zdravko Tolimir, who was sentenced with life imprisonment for genocide in Srebrenica in the final judgment by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
In the statement, these associations expressed their disappointment that for the purpose of glorifying Tolimir as a hero of the Serbian people and denial of Srebrenica genocide, commemoration for deceased war criminal was held on Thursday in Banja Luka.
It is emphasized that Dodik’s statement that it is necessary “in order for death of Tolimir and many others not to be pointless, RS needs to gather around the same values of its survival again, regain its power, because the biggest threat to the RS is united and centralized BiH”, echoes as the speeches of Serbian leaders in 1992 who called for the unification of the Serbian people against independent and democratic BiH back then.
“We consider these statements as introduction for what is expecting us, knowing that verdicts for Radovan Karadzic and Vojislav Seselj will be handed down in March, and we invite the competent organs of the international community and BiH authorities to undertake all measures to prevent the spread of speech of hate and calling for replay of events from the period of 1992 to 1995 in BiH,” according to the statement.
