The forest fire that broke out on August 6 at the Fratarski gaj site, near the settlements of Mile and Vrbica in the Jajce municipality, has engulfed about seven hectares of pine forest, the Federal Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ) announced.
Members of the Jajce Forestry Unit, Jajce Forestry Department employees and local residents have been involved in extinguishing and localizing the fire since August 6, however, activities have been significantly hampered due to the proximity of a mine-suspected area.
There is a risk of further spread of the fire, which could endanger the local population and property in the wider area.
On August 11, the Jajce municipality sent a request for assistance to the Armed Forces of BiH to deploy a helicopter to extinguish the fire. On the same day, in the evening, members of the BH MAC, Regional Office Travnik, conducted a reconnaissance of the immediate and wider area of the burned site, after which the data was submitted to the Armed Forces of BiH.
Acting upon the request of the Municipality of Jajce, members of the Armed Forces of BiH flew over and surveyed the area affected by the fire by helicopter on 12 August, between 9:40 and 11:00.
After the survey, they stated that due to the danger of mine-suspected areas in the immediate vicinity of the burned area, they were unable to extinguish the fire by helicopter.
Members of the Jajce Fire Brigade, employees of the Jajce Forestry Department and the local population will continue activities to prevent the spread and extinguish the fire.
