Recognition of Kosovo will open Pandora’s Box

“Denis Zvizdic saying that a change of borders means opening Pandora’s box is meaningless and ridiculous,” says Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic

Instead, Dacic continued, recognition of Kosovo opened Pandora’s box – and now “no one is asking Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) how this issue will be resolved.”

“We don’t care what they think, who’s asking them how the issue of Belgrade and Pristina will be resolved – who are they to give any opinion about it?,” Dacic told reporters after laying a wreath on Slavija Square in Belgrade, to mark May 1, Labor Day in Serbia.

He also said that BiH should not be present at all when there is talk about Kosovo, and recalled that Belgrade did not interfere in the manner in which the dispute between Athens and Skopje was resolved.

Dacic added that resolving the Kosovo issue should be discussed with great powers.

“Those who want to be big can wait, I don’t think they’re big enough to have a say in this issue,” Dacic said.

The minister also said that Pandora’s box was opened by those recognizing Kosovo, and that Belgrade has talked about it.

“It’s not the only case in the world where someone is talking about Pandora’s box now. Everybody is saying that Kosovo was a precedent, a sui generis case, one that does not apply to any other place. If that’s so, why suddenly this sui generis cannot solve some issues that would be an example for some others?,” Dacic asked.

He added that Denis Zvizdic is the chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) in a technical mandate, and that it would make more sense if that country was represented by its Presidency – but also noted that one could conclude from Zvizdic’s statement that he is against recognizing Kosovo – while Bakir Izetbegovic is in favor.

“Well, why are you poking around? What kind of behavior is that, do you think you can hit us on the head as much as you like – but it’s important that it does not apply to you? These are ridiculous and funny statements,” said Dacic, b92 reports.
