Reconstruction of Derviš-Hanuma’s Madrasah in Bosanska Gradiška is to begin in the coming days. The reconstruction will be financed by the General Waqf Directorate from Turkey with 600.000 BAM.
Mayor of the Municipality of Bosanska Gradiška Zoran Latinović spoke today with the Mufti of Banja Luka Osman Effendi Kozlić, director of the Waqf Directorate of the Islamic Community in BiH Senaid Zajimović, and the main Imam of the Islamic Community in Gradiška Zejnil Latifović about this project, after which they visited the madrasah.
Latinović said that Gradiška is a “mature environment” which wants to offer a better future to everyone. He highlighted that, after the reconstruction, the madrasah will beautify the city with its architecture and complement the religious life of the Islamic Community in Gradiška.
“What concerns everyone in Gradiška is low birthrate, high unemployment and poor living standard. If the foundations of mutual cooperation are strengthened, all open issues and fundamental needs of the citizens will be easier to take care of,” Latinović said.
Zajimović said he expects that the madrasah will be reconstructed in the next three months, after which an official opening ceremony will be held.
Mufti of Banja Luka Kozlić expressed satisfaction with the implementation of infrastructural projects which are of major social importance for all citizens of Gradiška.
Main Imam of the Islamic Community in Gradiška Zejnil Latifović reminded that the Derviš-Hanuma’s madrasah was built in the first half of the 19th century and has served as a maktab for more than one hundred years.
Latifović added that after the reconstruction the madrasah will serve as the administrative headquarters of the Majlis of Islamic Community in Gradiška.
