The past year 2024 was globally a very successful one on the international arms market, with companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) also achieving significant and record successes by exporting numerous products.

In the first quarter of 2025, companies from the defense industry of BiH exported weapons, military equipment, and explosives worth 170.298.273 BAM, which represents an increase of 42 percent compared to the same period in 2024. According to data from the United Nations (UN) Register of Conventional Arms, the most sought-after products of BiH’s defense industry are artillery shells and mortars.

What is interesting to highlight is the sudden increase in military cooperation and trade with the Czech Republic, which bought 300 120 mm caliber mortars and 10 howitzers of 122 mm and 155 mm caliber from the Novi Travnik company BNT in the past year. In this regard, the acquisition of the BiH towed howitzer H155 is particularly significant, as the Czech Republic is the first NATO member country to use it.

Additionally, the Czech Republic ordered more than 30.000 artillery shells from the company “Pretis d.d”, making this country a key European Union (EU) partner of BiH’s defense industry. In the field of artillery ammunition, the strategic partner for companies from BiH is the United States (U.S.), which imported over 200.000 artillery shells of various calibers.

That a bright future on the international market lies ahead for the Novi Travnik company “BNT” is also indicated by the data that Bulgaria is the second NATO member testing the BiH towed howitzer H155. Furthermore, contracts have been executed for the sale of more than 400 mortars to three countries.

Export of infantry weapons

The Bratunac-based company “TRB” exported more than 6.000 RS-9 pistols in the past year, which were successfully sold on the U.S.market, considered the most demanding market in the pistol category.

Also, the Gorazde-based company “AC-Unity” successfully sold a significant batch of AC Alpha 9 mm submachine guns to one of the Middle Eastern countries for police unit use.

The company “TRZ Hadzici” achieved significant partnerships through which it exported more than 150 hand-held grenade launchers to the Asian market, Klix.ba writes.
