The competition of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Championship 2023 in Mostar began today with the performance of the first series of jumps, and this year the honor of being the first to climb from Stari Most was American Meili Carpenter.
Today’s first series of competitive jumps marks the beginning of the three-day spectacle in Mostar, at the fifth stop of this championship season.
Competitors today jump directly from the stone arch of the bridge, thus paying tribute to the jumping tradition that has lasted for more than four and a half centuries in the city on the Neretva.
The honor of performing the first jump from Stari most this year and thus opening the competition of the world’s best jumpers went to the American Meila Carpenter, who collected 58.5 points for her back somersault.
The order of the jumpers’ performances was decided by a fun game of marbles that the contestants played last night during the welcome dinner. Thanks to her skill and precision, the decision fell on the American jumper, but the information about it remained a secret until now.
The competition continues on Friday, September 8, with the second series of jumps, which will be performed from platforms with a height of 21 (women) and 27 meters (men).
The grand final is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, starting at 2 p.m., Klix.ba reports.
