An exhibition of 133 BH registration plates, by author and collector Zoran Ivanovic, was opened yesterday in Zvornik.

The visitors had the opportunity to see the registration plates that are dating from 1905 to present.

Ivanovic, a professor of history, said that he started collecting the registration plates ten years ago and he managed to gather a quite large collection.

He also mentioned that chroniclers recorded that the first car in BiH appeared on July 7, 1902, when a number of participants of the car race from Paris to Vienna decided to visit Sarajevo.

He added that he also has photographs of plates from the time of the Austro-Hungarian rule and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

“The first car was introduced in BiH on October 1, 1905, on the route Bihac-Novi and Bihac-Petrovac for the transport of mail and passengers, and in 1924 in Zvornik,” said Ivanovic and added that the registration plates were introduced then as well.

Mayor of Zvornik Zoran Stevanovic opened the exhibition, and he noted that the versatile people are the greatest capacity of this town, as shown by this exhibition.

The history of the registration plates in BiH and their importance, as well as collector’s projects in this field, were explained by the traffic engineer and collector Zeljko Bosnjak.
