Regular Session of the Circle 99 on the Decisions issued by the Hague Tribunal (ICTY)

circlee99It is necessary to launch the process of revision of verdict (issued in February 2007), which the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in Hague issued on lawsuit our country filed against Serbia and Montenegro (former Yugoslavia) for genocide to determine the truth, justice and strengthen the reconciliation process.

This was assessed by keynote speakers of the regular session of the Association of Independent Intellectuals ‘’Circle 99’, which was held today on ‘’To Launch Procedure of Revision of Verdict for Genocide at Hague Court of Justice or Not?’’, who warned there is only two years left to launch this revision as an extraordinary legal remedy.

In that regard, they emphasized that decisions issued by the Hague Tribunal (ICTY) in the meantime clearly showed the role and presence of Serbia in BiH (Popović and Beara cases), which will be followed by verdicts in cases Karadžić, Mladić, Perišić and Simatović, which will ultimately be in function of determining the truth on war in BiH.

Doc. dr. Goran Šimić, one of the keynote speakers, emphasized that truth is the main reason why they should launch this procedure.

He reminded we are witnesses of political calls in the region to forget about the past, that is, to build ‘’bright future’’, which will not include discussions about victims, genocide and everything else that happened.

‘’Unfortunately, such policy, which has been run in BiH and the region for hundreds of years, only resulted in new conflicts in this area,’’ said Šimić.

At the same time, he underlined that those who want to build stable future, security and peace in BiH and countries of the region, believe that crimes that were committed cannot be swept under the rug and that it is not that simple to forget the past.

Revision of verdict is not important for demanding billions KM of compensation for victims for Šimić, but it is important for fundamental and elementary goal to finally determine the truth, and stop telling lies to children in this region to prepare them for new conflicts, as it is being done today.

Keynote speaker prof. dr. Zarije Seizović finds that ‘’principles that rule the universe and tailor human laws, demand BiH to be included in the second part of this story on determining facts if the neighboring country is responsible for genocide in BiH or not firstly because of the truth’’.

He warned that research shows that people much younger than those who were at war from 1992 to 1995 are now more poisoned by national and ethno-national narrative, without desire to find out what happened in territory of former SFRJ and BiH.

Keynote speaker prof. dr. Zijad Hasić also pointed to the need of launching the revision of the verdict, focusing on legal aspects of this issue.

He reminded of elements of genocide as the biggest criminal offence, emphasizing that revision of certain court decision can be launched as extraordinary legal remedy once it is determined there are certain circumstances which were not familiar during the pronouncement of the earlier verdict.
