In the first round of the Italian Serie A, Verona and Roma played 1: 1, and coach of Roma, Rudi Garcia, despite the tie result, praised the performance of B&H national team captain Edin Džeko and Egypt international Mohamed Salah, two players who arrived in the club this summer.
Garcia said that he is very satisfied with reinforcements after their first match in the national championship.
“Edin played very well in the first half of the match, and he had a good chance at the end as well, but we lacked rhythm, we were not fast enough, nor did we have width of the game. We corrected it by introducing Iago Falquea, who ‘stretched’ defense of Verona. We knew that it will be difficult on Bentegodi, it will be hard for all the other teams that come here as well. We could achieve more points, a collective approach was very good, and we are on the good track, but it was not enough to win against Verona, “said Garcia.
He expects better performance and better efficiency of his attackers.
“We could have played better in offense, we made some excess moves, however, the condition of this terrain stopped us from playing it at first,” said the coach of Roma.
He particularly emphasized that Džeko needs some time to completely fit in the team.
“We need to keep in mind that Edin has just recently arrived and he played only one friendly match with us, while Mohamed also had just a little time to adjust. Edin played at first in the first half of the match and that is what we were lacking on the other positions. Salah was close to score and he wanted to stay longer on the field, but the players need to know that I need all of them through the whole season,” concluded Garcia.
