srebrenicaRemains of 58 victims are ready for the collective funeral that will be held in Potocari on July 11, this year, as confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Missing Persons Institute of BiH, Lejla Cengic.

She emphasized that families of identified persons decided to bury remains of their beloved ones this year on a collective funeral in Potocari. However, Cengic noted that this is not the final number and that identifications will be conducted in the future.

According to her, there are remains of more than 150 victims in Podrinje identification project, whose identity was already determined on the basis of DNA analysis, but their identity was not confirmed by their families.

At this year’s collective funeral in Potocari will be buried the smallest number of victims since funerals started in the cemetery of the Memorial Center Srebrenica – Potocari, as Cengic already explained.

“This will be the smallest funeral since collective burials in Potocari started in 2003. The largest funeral was in 2003, and it was done in three phases back then and almost 1,000 victims were buried. If we do not find a new mass graves, this number will be smaller every year,” said Cengic.

We are still searching for between 900 and 1,000 victims of genocide against the Bosniak population in Srebrenica, which happened in July 1995.
