Remains of 28 Victims of Zvornik escorted, Funeral today

funeralRemains of 28 civil victims of war from the territory of the Zvornik Municipality were escorted today from the Commemoration Center Tuzla towards the Memorial Complex and Martyrs’ Cemetery in Gornja Kalesija.

The funeral was held today after the noon prayer, and was led by the Reis ul-Ulema of the Islamic Community in BiH Husein Effendi Kavazovic.

Victims who will finally find the everlasting peace today are Ohran Omerović (1937), Hašim Osmanović (1957), Ziba Nuhanović (1935), Mehmedalija Ahmetović (1956), Muhamed Mujanović (1935), Rahman Bećirović (1921), Sead Fejzić (1959), Hasan Smajić (1929) and 20 more unidentified victims for whom there were no close family members who could give a sample for DNA analysis.

These victims were exhumed from mass graves Crni Vrh, Ramin Grob and Kazanbasca.

This year is the 24th anniversary of the beginning of the crime in Zvornik Municipality and other places in Podrinje.

During the offensive by the Yugoslav People’s Army and units from which the Army of Republika Srpska derived, 2.019 civilians from the mentioned municipality were killed during the war.

So far, 699 bodies were buried at the martyr’s cemetery in the Memorial Complex Gornja Kalesija and families of the killed are still searching for 447 remains of civilians who were killed in the Zvornik area between 1992 and 1995.
