Arminka Helić is one of the most active politicians with Bosnian origins in the world. She has recently, as a baroness, joined the Britain Parliament’s House of Lords.
On that occasion, the BBC released a special story about that influential Bosnian woman who came to Great Britain as a refugee of the war in B&H.
The story describes Arminka Helić’s merit in connecting the former British Minister of foreign affairs William Hague with the famous actress Angelina Jolie which resulted in a strong and important political friendship. More precisely, that collaboration resulted in a worldwide initiative against sexual violence during wartime.
Doctor Arminka Helić is the daughter of Džemka and Rasim Helić from Gračanica near Tuzla. She has four sisters who all have successful careers as well. She was the political advisor of William Hague for ten years and is considered to be one of the most important persons in the Conservative Party.
William Hague told how Arminka Helić said to him in 2011 to watch the movie made by Angelina Jolie “In the land of blood and honey” which tells a story about a deliberately planned strategy of raping during the Bosnian war.
Arminka Helić, declared for baroness in August 2014 by the Queen Elisabeth, is one of the seven women to be sitting in one of the Britain Parliament’s houses.
