On 12 January 2019 EUFOR personnel gathered in Camp Butmir for a remembrance ceremony marking 11 years since the deaths of 11 servicemen from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia who were killed in a helicopter accident.

The Chargéd’Affaires from the Embassy of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in Sarajevo, Mr. Riste Velkovski, and COMEUFOR, Major General Martin Dorfer attended the ceremony of remembrance.

EUFOR soldiers formed a Guard of Honour in the Camp Butmir memorial garden to welcome the distinguished guests and take part in the commemoration.

During the ceremony 11 candles were lit to signify the lives lost, after which the Senior National Representative for the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in EUFOR read out the names of the fallen.

The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is one of 5 non-EU troop-contributing nations, out of a total of 19, that are part of EUFOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
