The ceremony was also attended by the Saudi Prince Nawaf Bin Mohammed Al Saud, a member of the Council of the International Athletic Foundation and the International Athletic Federation IAAF.

With his engagement, Al Saud ensured the majority of funds necessary for the reconstruction of the track that is now the only track in Sarajevo which meets the criteria of IAAF for organization of international competitions.

„The International Athletic Foundation launched many programs which are aimed at developing athletics across the globe. This is only the first stage of help to the Athletic Federation of BiH, and soon the second and third stage will be implemented, continuing the development of athletics in your country. We will discuss this at the foundation meeting in Monaco in December, after which we will negotiate the next steps with our friends in BiH,“ said Al Saud.

President of the Athletic Federation of BiH Suad Kaknjo explained that BiH now has four tracks that meet the IAAF criteria, in Sarajevo, Zenica, Banja Luka and Sokolac. In the coming period Tuzla should also get one such sports element, with the reconstruction of the stadium.

The project was worth 320.000 BAM. Besides the International Athletic Foundation, the reconstruction project was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Sarajevo Canton and the Athletic Club Sarajevo.

Minister of Culture and Sports of the Sarajevo Canton Mirvad Kurić thanked everyone who helped the reconstruction project and added that in 2017 the Ministry will certainly invest additional efforts in reconstruction of sports facilities in the Sarajevo Canton.
