Report on B&H Adopted: EU Concerned About the Lack of Unified Vision of Local Politicians

evropski-parlamentThe European Parliament at today’s session adopted the report of B&H progress towards EU. The report was adopted with 468 votes and 80 votes against.

According to the draft resolution, which on behalf of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament was submitted by Doris Pack, the concern was expressed that the political leaders of the three ethnic communities in the country still do not show a common vision on the path towards European integration.

They encourage the political groups of all levels of government to strengthen cooperation and dialogue in order to overcome the existing differences and to achieve progress on the path to reforms and improving the life of B&H citizens and civic society is encouraged to become more engaged in efforts for the reforms in the country.

Reference is made to abandon nationalistic and ethnocentric rhetoric which serves the leadership of three constituent peoples in B&H and condemns all kinds of segregation and discrimination in the country on religious or ethnic grounds.

A deep concern is expressed that a four year dispute among political leaders of Council of Europe contemplated the termination of the right of the state to be represented in this organization if before the election there is no genuine progress done in regard to the implementation of the judgement of the European Court for Human Rights, and emphasizes that the legality of the election 2014 will be questioned if the judgement of the European Court for Human Rights for the case Sejdić-Finci is not implemented.

Also, concern is expressed due to corruption which is present at all levels of public life and complex relations between political, business actors and media, and calls for acceleration of the implementation of the strategy for combating corruption and strengthening effective investigation, prosecution and punishment of corruption cases.

The report on B&H was discussed yesterday during the joint debate on the reports of the progress of the Balkan countries towards the EU.
