“Republika Srpska Railways” announces complete Suspension of Rail Traffic

Due to the unpaid gross salary for January and unpaid contributions, the employees of “Railways of Republika Srpska” announce a complete suspension of railway traffic, while the management of this public company claims that the financial situation is extremely difficult, but that they expect an influx of funds with which the obligations to the employees could soon be settled.

The independent union “Zeljeznica Republika Srpska” says that if the problem is not solved urgently, the workers will be forced to take radical steps. They called on their members and all employees to be ready for a complete suspension of rail traffic.

“If by Tuesday, by 3 p.m., the payment of the gross salary and payment of all legal obligations is not made, the same day at 7 p.m., a total stoppage of railway traffic will be initiated,” the ŽRS independent union points out.

They add that they hope that this will not happen and that the competent institutions will finally show responsibility.

“Otherwise, the workers of the Railways of Republika Srpska will be forced to fight for their basic rights in this way,” they added.

They remind that the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republika Srpska has publicly promised on several occasions that salary delays will not happen again.

“We especially remind you of the statement of the relevant minister after the meeting in Doboj, when he publicly said that salaries will no longer be delayed, and that if the workers’ salaries are seven days late, they will resign. Unfortunately, when the first salary for this year was paid, it turned out that these promises were empty words, because the workers still have not been paid the salary in the legal gross amount,” said the union.

They point out that on February 27, “Railways of the Republic of Srpska” paid only the net part of the salary, that is, the money that lies in the workers’ account, while taxes, contributions, health insurance, loans and other obligations have not been paid.

According to earlier financial data, “Railways of the Republika Srpska” has been operating at a loss for years.

The minus for nine months last year amounted to 22.5 million BAM, which is 6.6 million marks more than in the same period a year earlier, while the financial report for the complete year 2025 has not yet been published.
