Revitalization of the Fortress of Duke Stjepan in Ljubuski to take place soon

The Municipality of Ljubuski and PE Parkovi Ltd. Ljubuski started their activities on the project of revitalization of the fortress of Duke Stjepan in Ljubuski, in order to apply for the funds from the EU.

Their final goal is to revitalize the fortress above Ljubljana and return its tourism value, as stated from this enterprise.

They also noted that it is a historically valuable location for the entire BiH.

Namely, the fortress of Duke Stjepan in Ljubuski is the only late-medieval fortress located west of the Neretva River in Herzegovina.

The fortress is built on the highest peak of the mountain range of Butorovica Hill at 396 meters above the sea level, and thanks to its strategic position, monumental architecture and historical sources, it became a symbol of Ljubuski and Herzegovina.

Its potential was recognized by the responsible ministry as well, which proclaimed the fortress as a national monument back in the year of 2003.

This locality was seriously damaged due to seismic activities in the 60’s of the last century. The current state of the locality is contributed by the fact that the last interventions, except for the conservation and restoration works in the period 2003-2004, took place in the second half of the 18th century.

The reasons for the lack of activities in the past period include, among others, the lack of project documentation and the monumentality of this object, as stated from PE Parkovi Ljubuski.
