The leaders of today’s major economies are gathering in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where a two-day G20 summit on the theme of “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet” begins today.

Organizers said Rio de Janeiro is ready to host the leaders of the 19 G20 member countries and the European Union.

Security measures have been tightened in the city ahead of the summit. 8,000 military personnel have been deployed to the city center specifically for the summit and a comprehensive security exercise has been conducted.

The summit will be held at the Museum of Modern Art, which is surrounded by security barriers.

The summit will begin today with a reception hosted by Brazilian President Lula da Silva for participants, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, US President Joe Biden and others.

After a welcoming ceremony and family photo, the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty will be presented.

The leaders will then address participants in a session on social inclusion and the fight against hunger and poverty.

The summit will also bring together leaders of MIKTA, a consultation and coordination platform that includes Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia.

The leaders will also attend a session on reforming global governance institutions on the first day of the summit.

The second day of the summit will feature a session on sustainable development and energy transition.

After the final session, Brazil will hand over the presidency to South Africa.

The leaders attending the summit are also expected to hold numerous bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit and comment on current issues, AA writes.
