Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow and Belgrade share the same view that “attempts to trample on the foundations” laid by the Dayton Agreement on Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) are underway.

He said that Russia supports “Serbian friends” in this matter, but that it has very limited ways to help.

“The situation is really getting worse now and it is very difficult for the Serbs there. It is difficult for Serbs in Serbia, and it is also difficult for Serbs in Republika Srpska (RS). The foundations of Dayton are really being destroyed and the interests of Serbs are being encroached on,” said Peskov in an interview with the Russian news agency TASS.

“But at least Russia’s position on this issue is clearly expressed in the international arena,” Peskov said.

When asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin during the meeting with Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin on Wednesday made claims that “the West is preparing a coup in Belgrade”, Peskov said no.

”No. But we still have regular contacts at different levels, including very, very sensitive areas,” said Peskov.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, previously said that on the eve of the protest of environmental organizations against the exploitation of lithium on August 10th in Belgrade, he received a warning from Russia that his “ouster from power” was being prepared.

Three days after that mass protest in Belgrade, the topic of Vulin’s meeting with the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Sergei Shoigu, in Moscow was “the active participation of external forces in artificially provoking tension”.

Vulin then, as announced by the Government of Serbia, thanked the “Russian security structures” for the warning about the “coup attempt”, N1 writes.
