Russia is interested in resuming gas supplies to Europe, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
He said the Kremlin would closely monitor the EU-Ukraine negotiations on the issue of resuming gas supplies via Ukrainian territory, which were announced by the European Commission, which plans to include Hungary and Slovakia in the process.
“This is trade, and Russia is interested in its continuation. We know that Hungary set certain conditions for extending sanctions on Moscow, and these conditions were related to the position of the Kiev regime.
“Hungary, by all accounts, has received certain assurances from Brussels that some kind of negotiation process will continue. We will monitor the situation carefully,” the Kremlin spokesman stressed.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said earlier that Budapest had informed the EU leadership that it was demanding guarantees of its energy security from either the EU or Ukraine before the issue of extending sanctions on Russia is resolved.
