The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a warrant for the arrest of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to the Russian state news agency.

“Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy, born January 25th, 1978. Sought under Article of the Criminal Code,” the ministry’s website database states. The specific article for which the warrant for the Ukrainian leader is issued has not been specified.

The database also lists the birthplace of the individual being sought as the city of Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. A photograph of Zelenskyy taken before the war has been published.

Russian media reports that Russia has also issued a warrant for Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

In recent days, Russia has issued warrants for a number of Ukrainian political figures: Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov, former Minister of Justice Pavlo Petrenko, former Security Service chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, former Finance Minister Oleksandr Shlapak, and former National Bank head Stepan Kubiv.

It should be mentioned that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin in March of last year. The Hague court issued the arrest warrant for the Russian president on suspicion of being responsible for the unlawful deportations of children and the illegal transfer of people from Ukrainian territories to the Russian Federation.
