Trudeau will not announce his political Future during the Holidays

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not expected to announce a decision about his political future during the Christmas holidays, a person familiar with the matter has stated.

The individual spoke on the condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak publicly on the subject. The Prime Minister is spending time with his family in British Columbia from December 26th to January 2nd.

Concerns over Trudeau’s leadership intensified last week when Chrystia Freeland, Trudeau’s finance minister and deputy prime minister, abruptly resigned from the government after being informed she would no longer hold the finance minister position. An increasing number of Liberal members of Parliament are calling for Trudeau to step down, fearing the party is headed for a historic defeat.

The question of whether Trudeau will lead the Liberal Party in next year’s elections remains open.

Parliament is currently on holiday recess until the end of next month. The left-leaning New Democratic Party has announced it will hold a confidence vote after delegates reconvene on January 27th.

When Trudeau returns from the holidays, he could suspend Parliament for several months during the leadership race or delay the opposition’s initiative, which could lead to a confidence vote in Parliament.
