The latest set of sanctions by the US Ministry of Finance against representatives of the leadership of Republika Srpska is an example of double standards and hypocrisy and they deserve nothing but contempt, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bosnia and Herzegovina said.
“Sanctions are being introduced due to the alleged undermining of the Dayton Peace Agreement, although the text of the American decision itself contains a gross violation of the letter of the Peace Agreement, not to mention its spirit,” the Russian Embassy said.
As they point out, the use of sanctions instruments indicates that the international community is abandoning the role assigned to it by the Dayton Peace Agreement to be an objective and impartial mediator in the dialogue between the parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Instead, the tactic of punishing and literally strangling those who do not submit to the will of Western mentors was adopted. Of course, in a world created by the collective West and based on the power of money, financial sanctions can bring a certain discomfort,” the Russian Embassy said in its response.
They also believe that sanctions are unable to break the will of those who strive for sovereignty and “liberation from neo-colonial shackles”.
“Sanctions are the method of action of a self-confident force and an increasingly dilapidated mind. That is precisely why they deserve nothing but contempt,” added the Russian Embassy.
The Office for the Control of Foreign Assets of the US Ministry of Finance imposed sanctions on Željka Cvijanović, a member of the BiH Presidency from the Serbian people, Nenad Stevandić, the President of the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska, Radovan Višković, the Prime Minister of the RS, and Miloš Bukejlović, the Minister of Justice, for what they said were unconstitutional and anti-Dayton actions.
