A Ryanair plane landed at Banja Luka International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, marking the first direct flight between the city of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Germany’s capital Berlin, local media reported the same day.

At a ceremony held at the airport located some 235 kilometers northwest of the capital Sarajevo, Transport and Communication Minister of Republika Srpska, one of the entities, Nedo Trninic said that flight connecting Banja Luka and Berlin is the fourth line introduced by Ryanair in the city of Banja Luka.

“In the first few months of this year, we have exceeded the number of passengers on an annual basis,” Trninic said during the ceremony, expressing hopes that the airport will handle 200,000 passengers in 2019.

The flight between Banja Luka International Airport and Berlin Schonefeld Airport will take place two times a week, on Wednesday and Sunday.

Banja Luka International Airport closed a year handling some 35,000 passengers, and in the first three months of 2019, some 23,000. Except for the capital city of Germany, Ryanair has previously launched connections from Banja Luka to Stockholm, Memmingen and Brussels.

In Dec.2018, Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair announced that it will launch a service linking Banja Luka and Berlin from April 3.
