Sakib Mahmuljanin sentenced to Ten Years in Prison for War Crimes

Former Commander of the Third Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sakib Mahmuljin, was sentenced today by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to 10 years in prison by a first instance verdict.

The Indictment alleges that during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, an armed conflict between the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and ‘the Army of the Republika Srpska’ (VRS) in the Zavidovići Municipality, the Accused Sakib Mahmuljin, in his capacity as the Commander of the 3rd Corps of the BiH Army, under which ‘El Mujahidin’ detachment also operated, during 1995 and the military operation of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the wider area of ​​Zavidovići and Vozuća, within which members of the “El Mujahidin” detachment committed war crimes against prisoners of war and Serb civilians in that area, he did not do anything to prevent the said crime, although he had information that members of this detachment were preparing to commit the crime, and that after the crime was committed he did not do anything to punish the perpetrators of the crime.

The indictment charged Sakib Mahmuljin with the criminal offenses of War Crimes against Prisoners of War, War Crimes against the Wounded and Sick and War Crimes against Civilians, stated the BiH Court.
