”An increase in the number of charter flights is expected at Sarajevo International Airport this year, especially to Turkey and Egypt, ” the Airport Management stated.

According to Belma Curekovic, expert associate for communication and information at Sarajevo International Airport, the COVID-19 pandemic affected the reduction of traffic in general, as well as the number of charter flights and the interest of passengers in tourist travel in 2020, Avaz writes.

”The situation has significantly improved in 2021, especially with the beginning of the summer season due to the mitigation of epidemiological measures in the world, which also affected the increase in traffic at Sarajevo Airport,” Curekovic stated.

As part of the summer flight schedule, which came into force on March 27th, it is planned that 22 airlines (regular and charter) will perform air operations to 34 European and world destinations.

When it comes to the number of passengers, in 2021, 767.134 passengers passed through Sarajevo International Airport, while in 2019 there were 1.143.680, which is 67 percent of the traffic compared to 2019.

”According to Airports Council International (ACI) Europe statistics, before the pandemic, we were the tenth airport in the region in terms of passenger numbers, and now we are in seventh place,” she added.
