The whole of Sarajevo is covered in smoke this morning, and the stench of burning has disturbed citizens. Smoke is visible throughout the city, which has further worried residents after last night’s fire at Bijela Tabija.

The operational center of the Sarajevo Canton said that according to unofficial information, garbage is burning in the RS entity. As they told us, the fire broke out in the Kijevo area, more precisely Krupačke stijene.

The information that the landfill in Krupačne stijene is burning has been confirmed by the Fire Brigade from East Sarajevo.

According to data from the Sarajevo Canton Public Health Institute, in some settlements the concentration of PM10 particles was measured as high as 358 micrograms per cubic meter, which exceeds the permitted limit values many times over and poses a serious threat to the health of citizens.

A thick cloud of smoke has settled over several settlements across Sarajevo, accompanied by a strong, unpleasant odor that has residents reporting breathing problems. The most reports came from the settlements of Dobrinja, Alipašino Polje, Mojmilo, Buća Potok, Čengić Vila and Otoka, but similar scenes have been recorded in other locations.

Citizens are advised to avoid spending time outdoors, especially children, the elderly and people with chronic respiratory diseases.
