In the Sarajevo suburb Alipasin Most the handover of four fire trucks and associated equipment donated by the Fire Brigade of the City of Vienna took place yesterday.
The equipment has been donated to the Firefighting Union of Sarajevo Canton, more precisely, it has been delivered to four voluntary municipal fire stations- Vratnik, Novo Sarajevo, Novi Grad and Tarcin.
The President of the Firefighting Union of Sarajevo Canton, Tajib Pasic, thanked the large number of representatives and mediators who helped and participated in this project, among them the Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komsic, and the Councilor in the City Assembly of Vienna, Barbara Novak.
“I want to thank our friends from Vienna, the Ambassador of Austria in BiH, the Federal Civil Protection Administration and many others who have graced this major event. Volunteer firefighters, although at the margins of our society and social events, give their significant contribution to the protection and rescue of our fellow citizens; they sacrifice themselves unselfishly and show that they are giving more than they get back“, said Pasic who delivered a letter of thanks to the representative of Vienna Fire Brigade Gerald Schimpf.
“This would not have happened without one special person. Tajib Pasic managed to transfer equipment as soon as possible from Austria to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that is not easy at all and requires a lot of initiative. He didn’t do it for himself, but for the citizens of Sarajevo, and for the capital city of BiH to be more secure“, said Schrimpf.
Gerhard Schrimpf also delivered the highest state rank of Austria to Pasic, which is awarded to firefighters. Pasic spoke to reporters at the end showing a garage of the Alipasin Most fire station, emphasizing that until now, vehicles in it were older than most of those gathered at the ceremony.
