Tonight, November 29, the Sarajevo Youth Theater hosted a captivating performance titled “Art and Culture of the Archipelago”, bringing the richness of Indonesia’s traditional dance, music, and visual expression to a Bosnian audience. The visit of Indonesian artists was jointly organized by the Academy of Performing Arts of the University of Sarajevo, Naine Visuals, and the Karaya art group from Indonesia.

Conceived as a multimedia theater project, “Art and Culture of the Archipelago” combines dance, music, dramatic scenes, and visual effects to portray the diverse life found across the world’s archipelagos, with a special focus on the cultural heritage of Southeast Asia.

His Excellency Mr. Manahan M.P. Sitompul, Ambassador of Indonesia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, addressed the audience by highlighting the cooperation between the Embassy of Indonesia and the University of Sarajevo.

“Tonight, we gather not just on a stage, but at a crossroads of cultures. We are here to celebrate universal arts that require no translation, but speak directly to the heart. This festival is a bridge connecting the people of Indonesia and BiH. Such exchanges are vital for our bilateral relations – the artists, students, musicians, and citizens breathe life and soul into them. This festival enhances mutual understanding, respect, and the very foundation of our relations. We will witness the Archipelago without leaving the Balkans, experiencing the dynamic cultural performances from across Indonesia.”

The festival featured a lineup of Indonesian artists and art studios, presenting a variety of traditional and contemporary performance styles from different regions of the archipelago. One of the highlights of the evening was “Reksa Nusantara”, a contemporary performance inspired by Dongkra, a traditional art form from the Madiun Regency. The piece captivated the audience with its fusion of heritage and modern artistic expression.

The event drew enthusiastic applause, offering Sarajevo a vivid glimpse into Indonesia’s cultural wealth and strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.
