Sarajevo International Airport achieves historic Result – welcomes Two Millionth Passenger

Sarajevo International Airport achieved a historic result today, welcoming its two millionth passenger, which is the first time in its history that Sarajevo International Airport has reached this impressive figure. This result confirms the continuous growth in the number of passengers and the strengthening of Sarajevo Airport’s position as one of the most important transport hubs in the region.

The two millionth passenger was registered on a flight of Turkish Airlines to Istanbul, a long-standing and strategic partner of Sarajevo International Airport, which with its regular and charter flights significantly contributes to the growth of traffic and the development of the destination network.

The lucky winner is passenger Šanjta Kemal, who traveled to Istanbul today and was presented with an award by the Sarajevo International Airport Management and Turkish Airlines Director for BiH, Mr. Kars Eyup. The passenger was awarded a return ticket in Turkish Airlines Business Class on the Sarajevo-Istanbul route, as well as a voucher for using the Premium Business Class Lounge at Sarajevo Airport.

“The achievement of two million transported passengers is an important milestone for us and confirmation of the continuous growth of Sarajevo Airport. I would especially like to emphasize that Turkish Airlines is one of our most deserving and long-standing partners, which significantly contributes to this result with its regular and charter flights.

In the previous month, Turkish Airlines participated with 18% in the total number of transported passengers, with an average load factor of 90%. During the summer season, the occupancy rate of flights to Istanbul reached up to 95%, which clearly confirms the strong demand and stable cooperation between our companies,” said Sanin Ramezić, Acting Director of Sarajevo International Airport.

“As Turkish Airlines, we have proudly maintained and strengthened our ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina since our first flight to Sarajevo in 1996.

As one of the first airlines to launch regular flights to Sarajevo in 1996, and as the airline that has contributed the most to the growth of passenger numbers at Sarajevo International Airport over the years, it is particularly significant and makes us proud to welcome the airport’s two millionth passenger today on a Turkish Airlines flight.

For us, Sarajevo is not just a destination; it is a city with which we share deep historical, cultural and human ties. We are pleased to contribute to the growth of passenger traffic at Sarajevo International Airport and to the strengthening of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s connectivity with the world through Turkish Airlines flights.

Our cooperation, which has lasted for almost 30 years, is based on mutual trust and reflects a shared vision, brotherly relations and lasting friendship.

Today’s success is not only an indicator of the increase in passenger numbers, but also a strong reflection of the continuity and depth of our partnership.

We sincerely believe that this joint success will continue to grow in the coming years, and once again congratulate our important business partner – Sarajevo International Airport – on this achievement.” said Turkish Airlines.

During 2025, Sarajevo Airport recorded stable traffic growth thanks to an increase in the number of destinations, a larger number of seasonal flights and successful cooperation with airlines operating in the Bosnia and Herzegovina market.

The achieved result confirms that Sarajevo International Airport is on the path of further development and expansion of its capacities, with the aim of improving the quality of services and creating an even better experience for all passengers.
