Mayor of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka, paid an official visit to Tirana, the capital city of Albania, and he met with the Mayor of that city Erion Veliaj and received the key of this city. The capital city of BiH and Tirana have been friendly cities since 1996 and they nurtured close friendly relations. This visit is an announcement of additional efforts in the process of realization of joint initiatives, closer connection and closer mutual support in the field of international cooperation.

Mayor Skaka thanked his host on that occasion, and noted that Sarajevo and Tirana share the European future and they are growing into real European metropolises and regional centres.

“This is a special honour for me personally, as well as for all the citizens of Sarajevo. Our cities are rapidly growing and improving and we have to improve our mutual relationship, cooperation and the framework through which we are connected. Capital cities are not only crucial generators of economic development but they also should be leaders in the opening of political processes and regional connections. I see our future partnership in that,” noted Mayor Skaka.

During the working meeting of the official delegations, Mayor Skaka and Veliaj discussed concrete projects of cooperation in sectors of tourism, exchange of experiences in the use of European funds and development possibilities, and they exchanged ideas on joint participation in foreign markets as well.

Mayor of Tirana showed special interest in successful construction and function of Trebevic cable car. They also discussed better exploitation of opportunities of the process 16 + 1, which established a certain framework for the joint operation of regional capital  cities with foreign investors, before the upcoming summit. The honorary consul of BiH in Albania, Fikret Klaric, also attended the official meeting of the delegation.
