The mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, spoke about the big failure of the organizers of the Sarajevo Film Festival and the promotion of the film that portrays Chetniks and war criminal Draža Mihailović as positive characters.
“Draža Mihailović is a convicted war criminal in the Second World War (1941-1945), as were Ratko Mladić and Radovan Karadžić during the 1992-1995 aggression. Attempts to rehabilitate Draža Mihailović and the Chetnik movement in Sarajevo are unacceptable,” said Karić.
She further states that today, while revisionism is in full swing in and around our country, even many of us succumb to it.
“I am asking for concrete responsibility from the City of Sarajevo, if they want to continue cooperation with this city administration. Concrete responsibility implies the resignation of the person in charge of this part of the program and the selection of films in this program. The city supports the festival as a major cultural event, but such attacks cause immeasurable damage to the festival and to the city of Sarajevo,” she said.
In the end, the Mayor points out that it is important that the organizers of the festival take responsibility for such attempts at revisionism and undermining the dignity of the City, which has always been open to others, but benevolent ones.
