Sarajevo Mayor Sends Letters to Multiple Addresses: “Attempts to Glorify Ratko Mladic Will Not Erase His Crimes”

I want to inform the public that, as the Mayor of Sarajevo, I have sent a letter to all mayors of sister and friendly cities, as well as to the addresses of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the intention of highlighting the danger of relativizing any crimes,” stated Samir Avdić, Mayor of Sarajevo, today, September 7.

As a reminder, the monster Ratko Mladić was buried today at the Topčider Cemetery in Belgrade. He died in the Hague prison on August 27, where he was serving a life sentence for numerous crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the siege of Sarajevo and genocide in Srebrenica. Additionally, yesterday at the Marakana Stadium in Belgrade, during the famous derby between Crvena Zvezda and Partizan, fans from both sides displayed horrific banners with the image of the butcher.

Avdić stated:

“Our message is clear: attempts to glorify Ratko Mladić will not change the facts, nor will they annul the final verdict of the International Criminal Tribunal. They will not erase Srebrenica and Sarajevo from collective memory!

The truth cannot be erased with banners, insults, and attempts at historical revisionism. Actions like these are not sport, fan loyalty, or freedom of speech. I expect a clear stance and an appropriate reaction from international sports institutions. “
