Sarajevo paid Tribute to all innocent Victims of the Holocaust, Genocide

In the year when the world celebrates the 75th anniversary of the victory over fascism, Sarajevo paid tribute to all innocent victims of the Holocaust, genocide and war crimes on Friday evening.

A photograph of the Sarajevo Haggadah with a message of remembrance for all innocent victims of “Never Forget” was projected on the facade of Sarajevo City Hall. The mayor of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka, said that this was a message sent by residents of Sarajevo, Vijesti.ba news portal reports.

“The Sarajevo Haggadah survived the Inquisition, the Holocaust and the aggression on Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It has been preserved as a treasure of world civilization in Sarajevo, as a kind of proof of the victory of good over evil, life over death, freedom over repression. The Haggadah has a special significance for Sarajevo as well, because it is a confirmation of common life, mutual respect of people of different religions and nations. Sarajevo and Haggadah are one. They are a symbol of suffering, but also symbols of survival and victory,” said the mayor.

According to him, it is extremely important that at a time when there are still those who systematically and publicly support and try to rehabilitate fascism and criminal ideologies and deny the historical facts of war crimes, siege and genocide, the memory of the truth is constantly reminded and preserved.

“The Sarajevo City Hall and the Haggadah are invaluable, they are the medium through which we send a clear condemnation of evil and support for good in the strongest and most sincere way. The town hall was destroyed and rebuilt, and the Haggadah has been preserved. Both are attacked by the same evil, against which we must fight today,” Skaka added.
