The Sarajevo police bought three new armored vehicles, and intends to buy more. Cantonal Minister of Internal Affairs Admir Katica pointed out why these vehicles were purchased.
In a statement to Klix.ba, he stated that the first phase of procurement has been completed, i.e. the purchase of three vehicles and that they are Canadian Rochel Senator vehicles.
“In this year’s budget, we have foreseen more than 20 million BAM for capital investments for these purposes. The first purchase concerns three such vehicles, and two more will soon follow. The plan is to purchase five more such vehicles, which would ultimately mean ten armored vehicles,” he pointed out.
Katica stated that with the acquisition of this and other equipment, the Sarajevo police will be one of the most equipped in the region. He explained what the armored vehicles would be used for.
“The vehicles are multifunctional in nature. With all the accompanying equipment and capacities, they will be able to respond to several security challenges. The primary purpose is to combat more severe forms of disruption of public order and peace, but also to resolve crisis situations. The main purpose is the protection of members of our units, but also greater their effectiveness and resistance to different types of weapons and explosives,” he emphasized.
According to him, the vehicles have the capacity to transport ten people with full special equipment and can serve as barricades in different situations.
When asked when the vehicles should be available to the police, Katica pointed out that the necessary permits will be obtained and efforts will be made to make them available as soon as possible.
