Once again, Sarajevo serves as a hub for top-tier table tennis, hosting the 5th Gewo Cup—a major sporting event that brings together competitors of all ages and skill levels. The tournament will take place this Saturday and Sunday at the “Ramiz Salčin” Sports Hall in Mojmilo, the organizers announced.
The tournament is hosted by the Spin 2012 Table Tennis Club from Sarajevo, with Amela Mujezinović serving as the tournament director.
This event offers sports enthusiasts—from the youngest players to seasoned veterans—the chance to compete at a high level. Matches will be played on 10 ITTF-approved competition tables, using high-quality “GEWO Select Pro” plastic balls.
“We can look forward to exciting matches, a fantastic sporting atmosphere, and a great social experience—a chance to see numerous table tennis talents and experienced competitors all in one place. Valuable prizes, provided by our sponsors, await the most successful participants,” said Amela Mujezinović.
In the initial stage, the competition will be played in groups, with matches decided by the best of five sets (first to win three sets). The top two players from each group will then advance to the main knockout bracket.
It is important to note that while competitors may choose to enter a higher age category, they are permitted to compete in only one category per day.
Teams from across Bosnia and Herzegovina are expected to participate. Furthermore, the tournament retains its international character this year, with teams from the wider region also confirming their attendance. Support for this sporting event was provided by: the City of Sarajevo, the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton, and the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton.
