The Minister of Transport of the Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Šteta, signed today the contract for the procurement of additional 10 trams and equipment for their maintenance with the representative of the Stadler company Željko Davidović.

Earlier, with the consent of the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the procedure was carried out.

The signing of the contract was symbolically celebrated in the first of 15 new Stadler trams that arrived in Sarajevo.

“After 40 years, a new tram has arrived in Sarajevo. The delivery of trams will proceed according to plan, and after today’s signing of the contract for the purchase of additional trams and equipment, I am sure that in the years to come we will have the best public transport in the region. Public transport reform had to happen and I am proud to be part of this story. We will continue to work, so that citizens continue to feel positive change. Sarajevo deserves the best, and it will have that. In addition to the trams, we will also have additional equipment that will significantly extend the lifespan of the new railway and trams,” pointed out the Minister Steta.

The additional trams will have the same features as those whose delivery is underway. These are low-floor vehicles, which will be equipped with modern equipment, video surveillance, and air conditioning.

The first of 15 trams has arrived, and delivery of all 15 is expected by the summer of next year. Delivery of additional trams is expected in the second half of 2025.

The additional equipment that will be delivered consists of a machine for processing wheels on a tram, a laser wheel gauge, 12 sets of cranes for lifting the tram, a rotary switch for bogies, handy tools for removing equipment from the roof of the tram, a device for purifying and filling oil in hydraulic brakes , a device for charging air conditioners, a device for charging and controlling accumulator batteries, and a device for filling wheel grease.

The tram maintenance equipment will be delivered next year, and will ensure the long-term durability of the new trams, facilitate their maintenance and improve the functioning of the trams on the renovated line.

The value of the signed contract for new trams and the entire equipment is 29.7 million euros, it was announced by the Protocol and Press Service of Canton Sarajevo.
