Sarovic: There will be a drastic Increase in Electricity Prices if we do not stop non-transparent Activities

SDS President Mirko Sarovic stated that non-transparent actions were being taken regarding the alleged recapitalization of the Trebisnjica Hydroelectric Power Plant (HET) and that the Republika Srpska (RS) had started business in the joint venture with Serbia at the Gornja Drina Hydroelectric Power Plants in a bad way.

As he claims, more than 20 million BAM were spent for preparatory works without announced tenders.

“Next year, the price of electricity will increase drastically, and in 2024 even more, because the RS passed a law last year which stipulates that in 2022 the public supplier, Elektropriveda RS, will be obliged to provide 50 percent of electricity consumption at regulated prices, as it is now, but that 50 percent must go according to the market prices, “ said Sarovic.

He said that BiH, and thus the RS, has been under sanctions from the Energy Community for a year.

“We are under sanctions, and besides that, new sanctions are possible. It is also possible to limit our electricity exports,” he noted.

Sarovic stressed that this year we have an increase in the price of electricity for both the economy and consumers.

“So the market price will be affected by 50 percent next year, in 2024 by 75 percent, which will be dramatically felt by households in particular. In 2025, the price of 100 percent will be only the market price, and we need to tell that to the citizens. They need to know. This year it will be covered up since it is an election year. Why was such a law passed, why will the citizens pay for it all? That is another question,” concluded Sarovic.
