Analysis: Twenty Percent Increase in Prices of Goods in BiH

Prices of goods and services used for personal consumption in Bosnia and Herzegovina, measured by the consumer price index, rose by 2.4 percent on average in April compared to the previous month.

Higher prices were recorded in almost all sections, is stated for Fena news agency from the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Thus, the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 5.6 percent compared to the previous month, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.2 percent, clothing and footwear by 2.1 percent, furniture and household appliances by 1.3 percent, health care by 0.2 percent, transportation by 3.5, and communications by 0.4 percent.

Furthermore, prices for recreation increased by 0.8 percent compared to the previous month, restaurants and hotels by 1 percent, while other goods and services increased by 0.7 percent.

On the other hand, observed by sections according to the purpose of consumption (COICOP), in April 2022 compared to the previous month, on average, prices in the section of housing and overheads decreased by 2.4 percent.

The Agency also states that on average, prices increased by 13.2 percent on an annual basis.

The price level in April 2022 was 13.2 percent higher than in the same month last year.

The average increase in prices was recorded in the sections of food and non-alcoholic beverages by 20.6 percent, then alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.6 percent, housing and overheads by 9.9 percent, and furniture, household appliances and regular housekeeping by 6, 8 percent, is stated from the Agency.

They also point out the increase in prices in health care by 1.1 percent, transport by 28.9 percent, communications by 0.8, recreation and culture by 6.1, education by 0.5, restaurants and hotels by 7.8 percent, and others goods and services by 4.5 percent.

In the end, they stated that the only average drop in prices was recorded in the section – clothing and footwear by 4.8 percent.
