Schmidt officially resigns from Position of the High Representative in BiH

Christian Schmidt has resigned from the position of High Representative in BiH, reports Raport.

According to available information, Schmidt submitted his resignation to the PIC members, who appointed him, at around 6:10 p.m., given that he is currently in New York where he will submit his regular report to the UN.

He will, as they were told, remain in the position until the election of a new High Representative.

Call to begin the selection of a successor
In his written resignation, Schmidt called on the PIC members to begin the process of selecting his successor.

Reflecting on his mandate – the second longest mandate of a High Representative – he emphasized that significant progress has been made in improving the functionality of the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

However, it is clear that much more needs to be done for Bosnia and Herzegovina to achieve its Euro-Atlantic aspirations, believes Christian Schmidt, who hoped that the end of his mandate as High Representative would coincide with the successful implementation of the 5+2 program and the closure of the OHR, but Bosnia and Herzegovina has not yet implemented key reforms, which is why the work of the OHR remains essential.
